"Roderick can't take him to the capital! I need him," Sakura said quickly.

Kisame did not raise his eyebrows at this statement. There was no way she genuinely believed he wouldn't get free. Or did she? She was awful young. And Leaf coddled genin in a way Mist did not. He licked his teeth thoughtfully, feeling every sharp edge.

Sakura looked small, standing next to the big wooden table there.

"You need him," Cassandra repeated flatly. With an armoured creak, she settled back on her heels. Her left hand rested on the pommel of her sword, but to be fair, she was right handed.

Leliana, too, turned towards her. Her eyes were sharp and her lips were pursed. "For what?"

"Well." Sakura hesitated. "Well... It doesn't matter!" She lifted her chin. "He stays or I go."

There was a short pause.

Pointedly, the mark on her hand crackled.

It didn't seem relevant to point out that she had nowhere to go—she would, Kisame supposed, just go wherever he went.

"Surely there is no need for ultimatums?" Leliana asked, all gentle once again. "He is no more guilty for what has happened here than you are, no?"

Kisame didn't raise his eyebrows at this, either. Sure. They could go with that. He hadn't really meant to kill the old woman, anyway, which was basically not guilty, in the general scheme of his long list of murders.

Civilian casualties weren't good but nobody ever got this worked up about them in his line of work. And as much as he didn't like to admit it, Kisame'd just kind of panicked when the genjutsu hadn't broken.
